Things to do in west Cornwall

With two stretches of coastline within easy driving distance and rugged moorland in between there are plenty of things to do in west Cornwall.

Take to the coast

Watersport lovers can hit the waves with a surf lesson, hire kayaks and SUP’s from many of our local beaches, wild dip in Instagram-worthy pools or snorkel in crystal clear waters. To view our coastline from a new perspective, take a boat trip out from either St Ives on the north coast or Penzance on the south. Both promise plenty of wildlife, excellent fishing plus stunning scenery.

Fishing

If you fancy trying your luck, there are numerous opportunities to fish whether it’s off the shore, rocks, a boat or at a local reservoir. One of our favourite spots is Drift Reservoir a mere 2 miles from our park set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A trout fishery, you stand the chance of catching Rainbow and Wild Brown trout as well as the more elusive Artic Char, tight lines and don’t forget to share your photos with us!

Rock Climbing

Adventure lovers can get their thrills rock climbing at nearby Sennen where you’ll find the Pedn-men-du cliffs which are popular with climbers, both civilian and military. This is one of Cornwall’s best loved climbing venues and whilst not particularly high, the quality of the climbing, the crag location plus the impeccable quality of the granite here all combine to provide climbing for all.

The Minack Theatre

For something a little gentler, the Minack Theatre is an absolute must. Perched high on the Cornish cliff tops, this spectacular open-air theatre runs shows every summer with sweeping views along the coastline. Browse the exhibition centre and admire the scenery from the cafe before joining the B3306 back to St Ives. Listed as one of the most scenic roads in Britain we suggest you take your time to wind your way along. Head underground at Geevor tin mine, experience exquisite cuisine at The Gurnard’s Head, discover the Mermaid of Zennor and take in the breathtaking views before arriving into bustling St Ives.
